Healthcare Access and WASH

Program Overview

Our current initiative ensures that all enrolled orphans and vulnerable children can access routine medical
services . Starting in 2025, the ZAYT Foundation commenced the Almajiri Care (from street to strength) campaign, which aims to provide annual health insurance to over 100 Almajiri (nomadic Islamic students), primarily orphans and vulnerable children from underserved communities. ZAYT has also reached over 600 women and children through our WASH initiative, improving sanitary space by renovating toilets and providing a borehole in a school in the Dokawa community in the Jiddo
community of Kano state.

Our Projects

AlmajiriCare

On April 8, 2025, ZAYT Foundation took a groundbreaking step in child welfare with the launch of the AlmajiriCare Project, a bold health inclusion initiative targeting Almajiri children in Kano. Led by founder Abdulraheem Yakubu, the Foundation visited two Tsangaya schools to introduce the project to the school heads. These schools, known for providing Quranic education to vulnerable children, have long operated without formal health or welfare support.

The AlmajiriCare Project is designed to register 100 Almajiri children with birth certificates and National Identity Numbers, enabling them to access healthcare services under the Kano State contributory health care management agency (KSCHMA). Tsangaya school leaders warmly welcomed the initiative, calling it the first of its kind and expressing heartfelt appreciation.

Most of our children only go to the hospital when they are critically ill, and even then, it’s from the small amount they gather among themselves. This initiative brings us hope,”

Mallam Babba.

This collaboration marks a major milestone in the provision of care to this marginalized group of children in northern Nigeria. With enthusiastic community support and a clear plan for implementation, ZAYT Foundation is turning compassion into action—one child at a time. From the street to strength, the AlmajiriCare journey has begun.
